NEW YORK AND PARIS POP-UP STORES FOR ZARA Spatial Concept Design, Assistant Art Director and Graphic Designer
To celebrate Zara’s latest collaboration with Barbie and “Barbie: The Movie”, Random Studio was commissioned to dream up an immersive space for the launch of the collection in the brand’s Paris and New York flagship stores.
In this project, I worked as assistant creative lead to conceptualize, design, and oversee the production of the Barbie Dream House. The role included assisting the creative director in crafting the design narrative and the client presentations, overseeing the work of different teams.
This life-size dollhouse serves as a symbolic representation, evolving over Barbie’s 60-year history, seamlessly extending the universe depicted in the latest Barbie film into a tangible, human-scale set.
Drawing inspiration from the design language and versatility of a dollhouse, the pop-up adapts to any space it occupies. Visitors are transported from the bustling city streets into a whimsical world, guided by a yellow brick road leading to Barbie’s iconic pink dreamworld. The modular architecture, akin to assembling a toy, meticulously recreates Barbie’s walk-in closet, complete with a life-size fitting room where the collection is showcased alongside enlarged stickers resembling Barbie packaging, evoking textures and patterns from the film.
I was responsible for designing the clothing displays and preparing the print files, while coordinating with Zara on outfit combinations and with Mattel on the sticker design.
An interactive vending machine invites visitors to engage by rotating shelves of products, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Digital screens offer glimpses into the vibrant neighborhood of Barbieland, created using Unreal Engine technology. These scenes, though static, come to life subtly as the sun’s movement casts dynamic shadows over the artificial landscape, mirroring the enchanting allure of Barbie’s fantasy universe depicted in products and film.
