DAVID WOJNAROWICZ TRIBUTE
Illustrator
This art project pays a tribute to the artist, writer, and activist David Wojnarowicz, whose artistic career spanned the late seventies to his death, from AIDS, in 1992, at the age of thirty-seven. The drawing refers to one of Wojnarowicz’s pictures “Untitled (Face in Dirt)” from 1991 and was submitted as an artwork for the SCRT.co international art contest.
The online open call from the London based fashion brand was finalised to the creation of a new capsule collection that would feature the artworks from the winners of the competition.
My entry focuses on the theme of modern resistance. This photograph is the symbol of a poignant farewell from an artist who felt himself exiting this life, buried alive by a conservative, homophobic society. By reproducing his picture in a drawing and represent it on a capsule collection, this artwork reminds us of the importance of resistance, in memory of our modern martyrs. My artwork was publicly voted as the winner of the of the competition.
