VILLA SPINA

FAMILY COUNTRYSIDE HOUSE IN ITALY (wip)
Architect

Villa Spina is a residential countryside villa designed in 2022 as a commission from my family, who sought a serene retreat for their retirement. Situated on the outskirts of Benevento, the villa is deeply rooted in the local landscape, which holds personal significance for me as my hometown. The design is inspired by the surrounding environment, with its open expanses of wheat fields and fig trees, offering panoramic views of the nearby mountain range, La Dormante (Italian for “the Sleeping Lady”), whose silhouette resembles a reclining woman. This connection to the landscape was a guiding principle throughout the design process.

View from the house
The villa was designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings, creating a strong relationship between the built environment and the outdoors. Large windows and open spaces allow natural light to flood the interiors, while offering unobstructed views of the picturesque landscape. The architectural layout encourages outdoor living just as much as indoor, with spaces that flow seamlessly between the two. This interplay between the interior and exterior was essential in capturing the tranquil beauty of the countryside and creating an immersive living experience.

The house is organized around a central courtyard, which acts as the heart of the home, providing a private outdoor space that connects all areas.

The layout is carefully divided into two zones: a day zone, which includes communal spaces like the living room, kitchen, and dining area, and a night zone, which houses the more private bedrooms and bathrooms. This clear separation allows for an intuitive and functional flow, accommodating both social activities and moments of rest.

Villa Spina is a reflection of my design philosophy—embracing the natural landscape, enhancing the living experience, and balancing functionality with beauty. It represents not only a retreat for my family but also a space where architecture and nature coexist harmoniously.
